History

Bengal Chemists & Druggists Association (B.C.D.A.) established in 1921, is the oldest organization in the trade of medicine in India. It has approximately 32,000 members in all over West Bengal and the motto of the organization is the “Service to Humanity”. Since its inception in 1921, under the Companies Act 1913, the association is providing consistent service to the society & its members, which provided an opportunity to the BCDA authority to understand scarcity of qualified pharmacist in the areas like medical shop , community & Hospital Services, nursing homes, clinical pharmacies etc. and also realized that the number of pharmacists catering in West Bengal are not enough. To face challenges ahead in the profession of pharmacy and also to fulfill the cherished dream of few predecessors. BCDA ventured to start a pharmacy college under own management and founded.

BCDA Members Benevolent Trust. BCDA Members Benevolent Trust is duly registered by the competent Authority. The motto of the trust is “upgrading of pharmacy profession” West Bengal in particular and India in general. Based on the above motto . BCDA Members Benevolent Trust established “BCDA College of Pharmacy & Technology” in 2006, at 78 Jessore Road(S), Hridaypur, Barasat, Kolkata-700127, fully from philanthropic view point. The college got due approval from All India council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E.) New Delhi, affiliation from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (M.A.K.A.U.T.) and approval from Pharmacy Council of India (P.C.I.) New Delhi, up to session 2015-16 and renewal of approval is awaited.

Regulations

Academic regulations The course offered at BCDA College of Pharmacy & Technology is Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm). The duration of the course is 4 year as per the syllabus of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Kolkata(MAKAUT) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi. Minimum qualification for admission to the Course :- Candidates who have qualified [the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (Engineering & Technology) and have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics /Biology or an equivalent examinations of other approved Board or University. Candidate qualified WBJEE/AIEEE is also eligible subject to selection by the central selection committee of Engineering and Technology. Approval of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) The college has been approved by the PCI ,New Delhi up to 2015-16 . Lateral Entry: Candidates passed Diploma in Pharmacy examination securing minimum 60% from an approved College by Pharmacy Council of India and qualified in J.E.E (Engg. & Tech.) for lateral entry(JELET),subject to selection by the central selection committee of Engineering and Technology. Attendance: Students are required to have at least 75% attendance in Theory and Tutorials,85% for Practical classes separately otherwise students would be debarred from appearing in slot & semester examinations as per W.B.U.T norms. Award of Degree: Degree will be awarded during the ensuing convocation of the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, Kolkata(MAKAUT) to the successful candidates. Dress Code: The students should follow the dress code of the college and in case of any violation disciplinary action would be taken. They should always attend the college in the prescribed uniform only. No. T-Shirts and casual dresses are permitted in the college campus. The male students shall wear light blue shirt with collar and Navy blue trousers. The female students shall wear Churidar/Saree (Navy blue pants and Sky blue top with churidar/sarees). The college approves one or two suppliers to maintain uniformity in colour and design of the uniform. The prices are negotiable and are normally cheaper than outside prices due to bulk orders. EXIT FROM THE CAMPUS : Students are not allowed to go out of College during the College hours.However , under pressing situations or for valid reasons, concerned students can go out of the campus gate aftervobtaining a "permission slip" issued by the Principal's office.

Strict Discipline

General Rules of Discipline Each in every students of the college is required to the follow the General Rules of Discipline of the college in order to maintain a healthy academic environment in the campus. Few such rules are noted below:

1. The student should behave in the decent and professional way both in the college and outside the college to uphold the dignity of their family and in the college as well.
2. Student should maintain silence, peace & harmony in the college campus.
3. Student should carry their student identity and Library card with them and produce the same when needed. No books will be issue from the library without duly issued library cards. These cards should be properly kept to prevent damages/loss. A fresh card may be issued in case of lost, with the fine of Rs 50/-.
4. Ragging in any form on any students inside or outside the campus is strictly prohibited as the anti ragging Act of west Bengal govt., MAKAUT and UGC. AICTE & PCI, New Delhi. “If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authority, the concerned student will be given liberty to explain and if the explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would lodge FIR in local P.S.” Any such incidence will lead to strict disciplinary action including expulsion from the college. The decision of the anti ragging/disciplinary committee regarding all the matters of discipline will be final.
5. Absolute silence should be maintained in the library. Library book should be handled carefully and the book issued to be returned on time to keep the books on rotation. If any book is found damaged by any student the cost of book with penalty will be collected from the concerned student.
6. During the practical classes in the laboratory , student must be ‘clean white aprons’ and protect their feet with shoes, student should keep their work tables neat and clean and carry out the practical systematically with proper attention. Practical should be maintained and submitted regularly.
7. Student should bring their own fractional weight box, calculator, scale, scissors etc. to the practical classes as required and directed by the teachers.
8. Student should always be present in their classes while the classes are on. They should not waste their time when the classes are on progress. Those found violating these conditions will face due disciplinary action.
9. Each in every student is required to maintain a clean & healthy environment .Spitting on the walls or chewing gums and smoking are totally prohibited.
10. Each in every student should pay proper attention to safeguard the property of the college. Electrical, electric and other appliances like fans, switches, lights, instrument, equipment etc. and the furniture should be properly handled to prevent damage. Any damage caused will attract fines and the damage items will have to be replaced/repaired by t6he concerned individuals or by all the students of the particular batch or class as applicable.
11. Cycles/Scooters/Vehicles should be parked in the designated place only in the proper order and position. Improper parking will lead to disciplinary action.
12. The student may contact the Administrative Officer (A.O.) in case of any difficulty. They may see the Principal whenever necessary with prior appointment after discussing with the A.O. concerned.
13. Student should not include in any such activities that may hamper the college’s day to day work affect the reputation of the college adversely.
14. Student should be obedient to the teachers/staff/authorities/management and maintain good rapport with staff and few students.
15. No payment should be made any circumstances to any staff member of the college without official demand and proper receipt unauthorized payment will lead to disciplinary action against all the parties involved.
16. All dues/fees must be paid within the stipulated time to avoid fines/detention etc. failure to clear the dues in tie will result in removal of name from the rolls. Re-admission may be considered on payment of re-admission fees of Rs 1000/- . The deadlines for such payment without fine are 2nd July and 2nd January respectively odd and even semesters.
17. Student should appear all the examinations as the centers/places as fixed by the University on their won arrangement of travel, lodging and boarding etc.
18. Strict discipline should be observed in all the examination including the class test. Violation of examination rules and discipline shall lead to disciplinary action that may involve debarring the candidate from appearing at the examinations or rustication forms the college.
19. Parents are required to see their attend classes and examination regularly. Other general rules of discipline as applicable to educational institution shall be applicable in addition to the above mentioned rules of the college.

Dress Code The students are strictly required to attend the college in prescribed uniform only, violation of which will attract disciplinary action. The dress codes for boys are light blue shirt, navy blue trouser, matching neck-tie and black shoe. The same for girls are sky blue kameez and navy blue salwar or navy blue pants and sky –blue shirt. The student can get them tailored/stitched from the college approved suppliers for the sake of uniformity & less expenses.
