Pharmacists are the multi services health care provider all over the globe. It is a well recognized fact that the course of B Pharm focuses on the study of the core area of health sciences like- Physiology, Patho-physiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical biotechnology, Pharmaceutical chemistry, drugs of natural resources like-Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry, analysis of raw to finish products like-Pharmaceutical chemistry, Medicinal chemistry & Pharmaceutical analysis etc, keeping in mind the role played by them in Pharmaceutical Production Houses and R & D. The course trains students in the above mentioned aspects and makes them ready to take on various roles in the Pharmaceutical industry from production of raw materials to complete dosages form for the sufferer mankind. Possessing the knowledge of manufacturing medicines, pharmacy graduates may perform tasks such as dispensing right medicine to right patients, along with clinical research and working at pharmaceutical production houses etc. One of the main tasks of a Hospital / Community Pharmacist is to dispense medications to patients. Besides, those pharmacists are the key personnel in sales & marketing, clinical research, production, quality control & quality assurance as well. It is not far away that the role of clinical pharmacists in India will be recognized as in developed countries of the globe, there, pharmacists play a far greater role and command more respect from the society.
Course duration is 4 years. The 4 years’ duration is divided into 8 semesters, with each semester lasting for a period of 6 months. In each semester, students will have to face one theoretical and practical examination by the affiliating university (main exam). In some papers, there may not have any practical examinations.
1. Minimum qualification for admission to the course is (10+2) examinations conducted by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education / an equivalent examination of other approved board recognized by Central Government or Association of Indian University (A.I.U) with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (P.C.M) and or Biology (P.C.B / P.C.M.B) as optional subjects, with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical wherever applicable) in all the three subjects as stated above in regular class mode, and qualified WBJEEB / JEE (main), subject to online selection by the WBJEEB, Kolkata, West Bengal..
2. Must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category e.g. SC, in the above three subjects taken together.
3. Must have passed English in the ‘10+2’ examination with at least 30% marks.
Candidates passed Diploma in Pharmacy examination securing minimum 50% (45% for SC) from a College approved by Pharmacy Council of India and qualified in W.B.J.E.E. (Pharmacy) for Lateral Entry (JELET), subjects to selection by the WBJEEB of Engineering & Technology / Pharmacy. Few such seats are available at our College.
